This project involved transforming and adding to two, existing mixed-use buildings in the Downtown Baton Rouge area. The two-story Liberto Building and the one-story Butler Building, located alongside each other on the 600 block of Main Street, have street-level office space and four apartments on the second floor of the Liberto Building. The existing office space was upgraded, and more apartments will be added in a proposed building addition at the rear of these two buildings. To respect the historic character of the older, existing buildings, the addition will be set far back from the street facade, out of view of pedestrians on Main Street’s sidewalks. The addition will be four stories at its highest point and contain an additional 32 apartments, ranging from efficiency units of 525 square feet to two-bedroom units of 1,025 square feet. Each apartment unit will have a balcony with views out to the city, and a community room and a common roof deck on the roof of the Butler Building will be provided.
